Yes, you read that right. Sambal Belacan.

We have it for breakfast with our nasi lemak, we have it with our mixed rice dishes for lunch and dinner but what if it’s in your boba tea?

Whether or not this is simply part of an April Fools marketing stunt, we’ve got to give it to Daboba Malaysia for coming up with something so bizarre.

Recently the renowned bubble tea store took things to new heights by introducing their new Daboba Sambal Belacan Milk Tea.

The brand unveiled the product on their socials yesterday, sharing photos of the drink that was topped off with, of course, sambal belacan. Having the condiment served alongside dishes such as ikan bakar (grilled fish) or Ayam penyet (smashed chicken) is one thing, but in a milk tea drink with chewy tapioca pearls is quite another.

Available for a limited time only, the new Daboba Sambal Belacan Milk Tea officially launches tomorrow (1 April) and they’re giving out 100 cups of FREE Daboba Sambal Belacan Milk Tea to those who follow the steps given in their caption.

Social media users in the comments were absolutely positive that it was an April Fools stunt while others were more sceptical about how the peculiar combination would taste like.

One user even commented that everyone should just do their own sambal belacan at home.

Well, they’re not wrong though.

Will it be sweet or spicy? Or perhaps a combination of both? There’s only one way to find out. Let us know what you think in the comments!
