A prominent hotel on the resort island of Langkawi has temporarily ceased operations after 59 staff members tested positive for the Covid-19 virus as of yesterday (4 October).
Based on a report by Astro Awani, the Director of the Kedah State Health Department (JKN), Dr Othman Warijo, shared that all cases of the infection were reported under the Dah Teluk Nibung Cluster, which has been categorised as a workplace cluster.
To date, a total of 249 individuals have been screened, with 59 of them testing positive while 192 have been confirmed negative. Three more individuals are still awaiting their screening results.
Dr Othman informed that the cluster involved local workers and also close contacts of family members. He also added that the initial investigation carried out by the Kedah JKN found that the transmission of the suspected infections was from the community, which then spread in the workplace.
All close contacts have also been identified, have undergone Covid-19 screening tests and have been instructed to conduct a Home Surveillance Order (HSO) for 10 days.
JKN Kedah confirms that the transmission of the Covid-19 infections are under control.
