Malaysians were shocked by the recent case involving two teenage girls from Sarawak being repeatedly raped by their own father, uncle, and grandfather over the last six years. They were recently tried in court and sentenced to 335 years in jail for their horrific offense.
The older sibling, who is 19-years-old, is now seven months pregnant, according to the New Straits Times. Initially, the teenager was traumatised by what had happened, but she’s now ready to be a mother, according to the state Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah. She addressed the case at a recent press conference, saying,
“She (the 19-year-old) told our (welfare) officers that she wants to take care of her baby by herself and she doesn’t want the baby to be put for adoption. So we are looking into assistance that can be channeled to her and her child.”
“So far, she’s quite stable and our officers will take her for prenatal check-up until she gives birth. She also told us that she doesn’t want to return to her family.”
“Since she doesn’t have a job or stable income, we will enroll her into some training program, which allows her to learn some skills and (hopefully) she will be able to make a living.”
Currently, the teenage girl is at a rehabilitation centre for young unwed mothers in Taman Seri Puteri, Telaga Air. Her younger sister who is just 14 years old was sent to a children’s home on the court’s orders.
“We will continue to monitor her situation. If it’s safe and suitable for her to return home, we will send her home. Otherwise, we will apply for a court order for her to (continue) staying at the children’s home,” said Datuk Fatimah.
We hope these two sisters can recover from the horrific ordeal they’ve had to endure for so long!
