Just recently, a woman in Ipoh was arrested for stealing 2 luxury watches from her husband, who is a PDRM officer.

The said luxury watches were the Rolex Sky-Dweller and Rolex GMT Master-II 9, which cost RM207,000 and RM198,000 respectively. This brings the total amount of the luxury watches to slightly more than RM400,000, and they were stolen about 3 years back. Kepong MP, Lim Lip Eng got his attention on the news and had something in mind.

“How can a police officer afford those?”

In his Facebook post yesterday morning (October 14), Lim was baffled that a police officer could afford luxury watches worth RM400,000 and demanded an official response from PDRM.

“We know roughly how much a police officer make. It’s PDRM’s responsibility to explain to the public about how can an officer afford luxury watches worth that much,” Lim said.

Lim believes the public has the right to know about how the officer purchased the fancy watches.

“Did he buy them with the wages he received as a police officer, or through other methods?”

He said that if PDRM is keeping quiet about the matter, it may tarnish the organisation’s reputation.

“They were a gift”

On the same day, PDRM responded to the matter and assured the public that they were currently investigating the police officer who bought the luxury watches. The Director of PDRM Integrity and Standard Compliance Department, Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad said that early investigations revealed that the fancy watches were a gift from the officer’s parents.

“It was from his mother and late father who was a successful businessman.”

In the meantime, Azri said that investigations on the officer’s luxury life are still ongoing.

Let’s not jump to any conclusion before PDRM comes up with the official result of the investigation.
