Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh made showbiz history at the Academy Awards yesterday (March 13), when she took home the Best Actress award for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Often, whenever a Malaysian achieves a notable feat, the question is then whether or not we would get a public holiday to celebrate this achievement.
However, it has been clarified that we will not be getting a public holiday to celebrate Michelle Yeoh’s achievement despite the rumours that had been going around.
The Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) recently shared on social media to clarify that no public holiday has been announced.
Jabatan Perdana Menteri (JPM) ingin merujuk kepada tangkap layar berita yang tular di media sosial bertajuk ‘?? ?????…

This was in response to a screenshot of a fake news report, which misused the identity of The Star. The spoofed news article was headlined, “PM Anwar declares public holiday on Wednesday: ‘This is the pride of a nation!'”
In the post by JPM, they wrote, “The information shared through screenshots of news that went viral on social media is false“.
It also urged members of the public to not spread or share false or unconfirmed information.
Meanwhile, Star Media Group, which owns The Star has also alerted the public to the fake image.
“It has come to the company’s attention that a picture, depicting a manipulated image which misuses The Star‘s identity, is making the rounds on social media“, it said.
The company added that the image was a misrepresentation of The Star‘s actual news coverage.
“A check on the Lifestyle section of The Star’s portal, which houses the Entertainment category, confirms that no such article was carried amid the slew of news on Yeoh’s historic Best Actress win at the 2023 Oscars,” explained the company.
So guess no public holiday this time around then!
