According to Sinar Harian, Mohamad Badruldin Mohamed, 36, was charged with murder in the Magistrate’s Court today (12 May), which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction, according to Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The accused nodded in understanding to the murder charge that was read in front of Magistrate Muhammad Iskandar Zainol. However, no confession was recorded as the murder case is under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

Meanwhile, for the charge of having unnatural intercourse with the victim, the accused pleaded not guilty.

He was charged under Section 377C of the Penal Code which states that the accused can face imprisonment of at least five years and not more than 20 years.

The court sets 15 June for the re-mention of the case and the chemical report.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Alison Chan May Kam, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.

Previously, it was reported that the autopsy results on the baby found that there were bruises on the mouth, which is believed to have been caused by suffocation with hands. Lacerations were also found on the anus of the victim, believed to be due to the insertion of a blunt object.
