Philippines Police Officers Kidnap 4 Tourists, Including 1 Malaysian & Demand RM200k Ransom

A shocking incident took place in Pasay in the Philippines recently, whereby 4 tourists, including 1 Malaysian, were kidnapped by police officers and their armed civilian cohorts.

4 police officers have since been arrested and charged for the kidnapping, with the Filipino police now looking for at least 10 other suspects who were not cops but implicated in the kidnapping.

According to the Philippines-based publication Inquirer, the kidnapping took place on Sunday (2 June) at around 12.20am, whereby the 4 tourists were in a Lexus car that was flagged down by the Philippines National Police motorcycle cops on Taft Avenue in Pasay.

Furthermore, a white van was following these policemen on motorcycles, which was used to kidnap the victims.

The 4 tourists were identified as 25-year-old Malaysian Tang Heng Fei, while the other 3 were Chinese nationals, 29-year-old Meng Zhao, 30-year-old Yang Zhuan Zhuan and 32-year-old Shi Yi Xuan.

Of the 4 victims, Malaysian Tang Heng Fei and Chinese national Shi Yi Xuan managed to escape the kidnapping and reported the incident to nearby officials.

Furthermore, to save their friends, they paid PHP2.5 million or approximately RM200,000 of ransom demanded by the kidnappers

The 2 other victims were beaten by the kidnappers overnight before being released on Monday (3 June) at around 6am after the ransom was received.

Upon receiving the information of the kidnapping, Philippines National Capital Region Police Office Chief Major General Melencio Nartatez launched a search operation that led to the apprehension of the 4 suspects.

Moreover, the Southern Police District and Anti-Kidnapping Group operatives took part in the arrest.

Yesterday (5 June), the 4 police officers were arrested, including Senior Master Sergeant Angelito David, Master Sergeant Ralph Tumangil, Staff Sergeant Ricky Tabora and Major Carlo Villanueva.

They were all charged with kidnapping for ransom, robbery and carnapping.
