Another poster of an advertisement has seemed to pique the authorities’ interest and stir controversy. Only this time it’s not ‘sexy’ watch ads that authorities have rained fury upon but a pharmacy shop that displayed a poster showing a female model not wearing a head scarf.
According to one of the employee’s of the pharmacy – who declined to be named- Municipal Council enforcement officers walked into the pharmacy located at Aeon Mall, Kota Baru, and handed over a summon to the management for displaying the said poster.
“I was told the manager has to pay RM150 for the offence,” said the employee, later adding that the poster was only put up just recently.
This ad has flouted “conditions stipulated on their business and premise permits” as the model is not wearing a headscarf and covering her aurat according to Council president Zamri Ismail when contacted.
Zamri Ismail confirmed that a summons has indeed been issued against the pharmacy in question, and that the council is very serious in clamping down on traders who don’t adhere to strict codes concerning posters.
“I cannot understand why traders cannot comply with the conditions stipulated on their business and premise permits.”
“We will continue to monitor the situation and will not compromise with those who flout these by-laws, “ he said.
Netizens alike were outraged at such summons as the lady in the poster wasn’t displayed inappropriately at all and the only reasoning for the offense was because she was ‘not wearing a headscarf and covering her aurat’.
Well laws are laws I suppose.
