Earlier this morning, the world was shocked when news of a Lion Air plane flying domestically in Indonesia tragically crashed in the sea near West Java.

As search and rescue efforts are currently ongoing, officials have told the media that a lot of debris has been found floating in the sea. A number of personal belongings like phones, wallets, luggage bags, passports, and other identification were found among the debris, along with parts of the plane.

On top of that, Basarnas (Indonesia’s search and rescue agency) chief Muhammad Syaugi stated that body parts were also found among the debris floating in the water. 

Now, in the latest update, one body has been found by search and rescue officials.

Earlier this morning, Lion Air flight JT610 suddenly fell off the radar minutes after taking off. The flight, which departed at 6.20am this morning (29th October), was expected to land in Pangkal Pinang at 7.20am but lost contact with air traffic controllers at 6.33am.

It was later discovered that the flight crashed in the north sea of Karawang, West Java. A total of 189 people were on board.
