Hari Raya is less than a day away and many Malaysians are of good cheer. This was evident in motorists who were on their way back to their hometowns, especially those travelling up north towards Ipoh.
That’s because a pleasant surprise awaited them as Ahmad Faizal Azumu, Perak Menteri Besar, embraced motorists with his presence at the Ipoh North Toll Plaza, where he gave each one of them a goodie bag containing traditional kuih and drink, reported New Straits Times. Aww that’s so nice of him.
Ipoh Barat and Gopeng Srikandi were the ones who organised this programme.
Faizal said sharing the Hari Raya spirit with Malaysians heading back to their hometowns to celebrate Hari Raya with their loved ones was the reason behind this generous gesture.
“I feel so happy to share the Hari Raya spirit with the road users who come from different races,” he said at a press conference after distributing the goodies.
His wife, Dr Nomee Ashikin Mohammed Radzi, Ipoh Barat Srikandi chief, Shahnoor Zahurin Mohd Haslan Myudin, and Gopeng Srikandi chief, Juliana Mohamad Jamaluddin were also present at the press conference.
He added that he reminded motorists to drive safe and ensure that their seat belts are fastened, especially for children riding in the front passenger seats.
“While distributing the goodies, I have spotted several families with children in the front passenger seat and who did not buckle up. It is important to look into this safety aspect. Besides that, I have noticed that some children were placed in their child seats but it was not properly buckled up,” he said.
“As of last year, 80 per cent of road accident cases recorded were due to the human factor. The number can be reduced should road users obey rules and regulations.” Remember to buckle up guys! Especially for front seat passengers.
Faizal also commended officers from several departments and expressed his gratitude towards them for working during the Hari Raya holidays to ensure a smooth journey for travellers.
“I would like also to take this opportunity to thank officers from the Road Transport Department (RTD), police, PLUS and others who have to sacrifice and work during Hari Raya,” he said.
He then invited the people to the Hari Raya open house, which would be held at the Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) in Meru on the first day of Hari Raya from 3pm to 6pm. Makan makan anybody?
Did any of you meet MB Faizal while travelling this Raya? That was a pretty heartwarming gesture from him. Remember to pass on the Hari Raya spirit, and drive safe!
