A 53 year old woman who is believed to have mental illnesses allegedly beat her mother to death at a home in Kepala Batas, last Friday night.

Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the victim, Loh Foh Mooi, 90, was found bleeding with injuries to her face and hands following a heated argument with her 53-year-old daughter. It is understood that the victim was living with her daughter and her 16 year old granddaughter (the suspect’s daughter).

“At the time of the incident, the suspect’s 16-year-old daughter was in the house and heard the commotion, including the suspect threatening to kill the elderly woman,”

“The teenager tried to get out of her room but her mother ordered her to stay in the room before she heard noises and sounds of falling objects.”

ACP Noorzainy added that the granddaughter quickly contacted her cousin nearby in Sungai Dua for help as she was worried that something might’ve happened between the two. About 15 minutes after the commotion, the teen managed to leave her room and crept out of the house through the back door.

Not long after, the teen’s aunt arrived at the scene and entered the house, discovering the victim laying motionless on the floor, covered in blood. She then called the hospital and the medical team arrived and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Noorzainy said,

“Our interview with the granddaughter revealed that the suspect and victim were often engaged in verbal exchanges. Family members also told us that the suspect has a record of mental illness and is still seeking psychiatric help,”

Initial examinations showed results of injuries to the victim’s left hand and face which is believed to have been caused by a blunt object.

The victim’s remains were sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post-mortem while the suspect has been sent to the Kepala Batas Hospital for a mental evaluation. The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
