Whole roasted pork is often part of a prayer ceremony in the Chinese community, and most of the time, the meat will be divided and eaten after the prayers. A family in Penang recently was relieved that they did not eat the pork that they purchased earlier.
A woman recently shared her experience on the Chinese platform, Xiao Hong Shu, but the post has since been deleted. However, some social media pages have since re-shared the post to spread awareness to others. In the post, the victim in Penang said that she is aware of the swine fever in the state but did not expect that some vendors are still selling pigs that are affected by the disease.
“Many people are looking for whole roasted pork for prayer ceremonies recently, and I can’t believe some vendor are selling pigs that are ill,” she said.
The family started to sense something was off about the pork when they sliced the meat after the ceremony.
“We noticed a lot of thick pus on the meat, and they smelled really bad.”
Not only that but the family also noticed that the meat was not properly cooked as some parts of the meat were still raw.
In her deleted post, she stated that she has confirmed with other pork vendors that the thick pus is a sign of “cancerous” pork. The woman then reached out to the vendor for compensation but was denied any and instead was offered a replacement whole roasted pork for the upcoming Ching Ming festival.
The woman, however, did not disclose the name of the vendor or the shop and urged others not to consume pork for the time being as safety precautions.

We can only imagine the consequence if the family and their guests were to consume the rotten pork. Who knows what else might’ve happened other than food poisoning! We are genuinely so glad that they are all fine.
