As sad as we are to say our temporary goodbyes to this national gem, we know it’s the right decision for our country given the state we’re in.
All outlets of Pelita Nasi Kandar, the largest nasi kandar restaurant chain in Malaysia, will be closed from 1st April till the end of MCO on 14th April, says sources from NST.
The local favourite announced that only its main outlet at Taman Chai Leng will continue operations but this strictly reserved to only offer free packed Nasi Kandar for our hardworking frontliners who are involved in enforcing the MCO.
“The main branch will open from 11am to 2pm but not for business,” said group executive director, Datuk K.K.Sihabutheen. The business will only operate to cater for those who need it, he added:
“We will be giving away 300 free hampers for people in need. The head of the family who comes to collect the food must show their identity card to receive the hampers.”
Popularly known by locals as a hotspot for the best nasi kandar, Pelita has done its part in helping to feed frontliners during this troubling time. They’ve given away up to 78,362 packed nasi kandar with drinks since the MCO took effect.
To all nasi kandar lovers, we feel your pain. As they say, distance makes the heart grow fonder.
