On 16 June, an altercation between a Grab rider and a Singaporean man occurred at a petrol station in Johor.

It is said that the Singaporean men had been filling up a jerrycan with RON95 petroleum for go-kart uses and were confronted by a Grab rider.

The video of the Singaporean men behaving aggressively towards being confronted was uploaded to social media where it had gone viral.

About 2 weeks later on 6 July, one of the men has finally been detained by PDRM. In the statement issued by the Iskandar Puteri district police chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police Rahmat bin Ariffin said that they managed to detain one of the men from the viral video at around 2.30pm on 6 July.

“Officers arrested a 46-year-old Singaporean Chinese man believed to be involved in the altercation at a Caltex in Iskandar Puteri.”

He continued: “The suspect admitted that he was involved in the case. A check on him shows that he had no past records.”

The case is currently still under investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code (criminal intimidation) and if found guilty, the suspect will face a maximum of 2 years in jail or a fine or both.

ACP Rahmat bin Ariffin added that they are still looking for witnesses and proof for this case.

We hope that justice will prevail.
