The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has arrested four of its own police personnel on suspicion of possessing ketum juice.
According to BERNAMA, the four police personnel were arrested during a raid on a house in Taman Yew Lai in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (January 4). They were arrested at the house at around 2:15 am.
Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) director Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad confirmed the arrest but didn’t comment further on the case.
Given that the suspects are all police personnel, the case has been handed over to JIPS Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters for further investigation.
The 4 police personnel are aged between 25 and 50 and hold administrative positions in PDRM, with 3 of the suspects stationed at the Petaling Police Station.
Meanwhile, the other suspect works at the District Police Headquarters in Brickfields.
Sinar Harian reported that the suspects allegedly processed and consumed the illegal substance.
According to Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, the 4 suspects were arrested to assist in investigations. They’re now being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poison Act 1952.
