Retirement on time does not work for some people. After his mandatory retirement back in April, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah has returned to work at the operating table, as revealed via his X post, @DGHisham.

Dr. Hisham officially clocked in at the Endocrine Institute at Hospital Putrajaya yesterday (October 3) to serve his duties again and this time, as a surgeon.

“I will start the surgery session every Monday and run the clinic every Tuesday,” the former Health Director-General said.

In the meantime, Dr. Hisham, who has been dubbed the pandemic hero shared his hope to see the Endocrine Institute strengthening the medical and endocrine surgery services in the country.

“I also wish to see this Endocrine Institute becoming a centre of international excellence.”

According to Dr. Hisham, the Endocrine Institute in Hospital Putrajaya includes a 10-story block with 220 beds, an intensive care unit with 10 beds for adults and 8 pediatrics.

That’s not all

It also has an Integrated Neuro-Endocrine hybrid operating theater as well as 4 operating theaters, which just started operating last week. The establishment of the Putrajaya Hospital Endocrine Institute was inspired by the former Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam with Noor Hisham as the main driving force.

The opening of the new health facility was made in 2022 when Khairy Jamaluddin was serving as the Health Minister.

“Another day, another slay!”

Dr. Hisham’s followers were mostly happy to see him “quitting retirement”  and returning to serve the public and “slaying” the day again.

During his mandatory retirement in April, Dr. Hisham told the media that he was going to take a break after serving the Ministry of Health (MoH) for 35 long years.

Without his tireless efforts and his effective team, we wouldn’t have made it through the Covid-19 pandemic safely. We went from living the new norms to bringing back the old norms again. Thank you for your service, Dr. Hisham!

Are you happy to see him serving his duties again?
