What was meant to be the happiest day of her life turned into heartbreak when Nor Syafiqah Mohd. Sharif, 28, waited in her wedding attire for a groom who never arrived.
“I waited, but he didn’t come, and my calls went unanswered. At that moment, my feelings were mixed, I was truly sad and embarrassed because so many guests had arrived.”
“The feast, with about 1,000 guests consisting of relatives and friends at my home in Kampung Padang Luar, still went on,” she said when contacted today.

She said the 36-year-old man, who lives nearby, has been unreachable until now.
“He’s a good person, but our relationship was never approved by his family. Still, he insisted on continuing with it,” said the single mother of one.
“I had rejected him several times because I was worried his family wouldn’t like me, but he kept coming back until we decided to get married.”
From helping with preparations to disappearing on the big day
According to her, the day before the ceremony, the man came to deliver catering items for the feast in conjunction with the solemnisation.
“I handled the catering myself because I run a food business. When he came to deliver the items, he didn’t say anything suspicious.”
“That same night, he didn’t attend the dinner event, and I already felt something was wrong. On the day of the ceremony, he was still unreachable,” she explained.

She said she cried all day after the man failed to appear, before changing into regular clothes at 11 AM.
“He works as a lorry driver and sometimes helps at my food shop. I also run a car wash and had planned to ask him to manage it, but everything is ruined,” she said.
Nor Syafiqah added that the wedding reception scheduled for December 13 also had to be cancelled.
“I spent about RM12,000 for this solemnisation feast, but it didn’t happen as planned,” she said.
She added that she has already met with a lawyer for legal advice and plans to file a lawsuit.
“However, if they come and explain what happened, maybe I’ll consider being lenient. Whatever it is, I need to discuss it with my siblings,” she said.
