Nobody deserves to get body-shamed just because they have a bigger appetite, or simply because they enjoy their meal. An unfortunate Malaysian woman was recently teased by one of her colleagues just because of what she ordered during lunch.
In an anonymous post shared by the Facebook page Xuan, the woman revealed the food that she ordered for herself.
- A bowl of Pan Mee
- 2 portions of Dim Sum
- A glass of iced coffee
Truthfully, it doesn’t sound too much for a satisfying lunch. It might be more than what you eat for lunch, but it’s not over the top. Regardless, her lunch turned out to be a joke to one of her colleagues, who had the audacity to tell her,
“No wonder you’re so fat. As a guy, I don’t even eat that much.”
In the post, the woman said that she weighs 58 kg, and admitted that she is skinny. However, she knows as well that she is not fat as the man described. Some of us may just lose our appetite to continue our lunch after the “joke”.
“If you don’t eat now, you’ll eat candle next time, like the spirits”
Unsurprisingly, the woman is not the only one who did not sit well with the man’s “joke”. Many Malaysians took the opportunity to criticise the man for the joke which was uncalled for, and some of them even suggested some ways to respond to the man.
“Did you eat or drink anything from his house? Fat or slim, it has nothing to do with him.”
“If he’s single, tell him that you’re sorry that he’s single because he’s stingy. If he’s married, tell him you’re sorry for his wife because she could never have a satisfying meal at home.”
“Tell him, if not now, when should you eat? Next time it’ll be eating candles (food for spirits).”
“Tell him, you eat well and better when he’s around.”
“You should tell him that he’s just the same as you, can’t keep your mouth closed.”
“You’re not even using his money. Please eat as much as you want. Let him see that until he stops joking about it.”
“Some people speak without thinking. The amount that you eat has not impacted your brain, your health and how you think, so it’s better than him.”

There is never a good reason why you should judge someone based on how much that person eats. It’s not only uncalled for, but we never know how emotionally hurtful it can be to some people.
