An advertisement board of a luxury designer brand in Bangi has recently caused an uproar among some of the residents nearby.

The designer brand, Jovian put up a huge advertisement board outside its boutique in Bangi, where it shows a few women wearing nude color corsets. The corsets are knowns as Wonder Suit by Jovian, and Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (ISMA), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) has written a letter to the boutique to ask them to take down the advertisement as it looks like women in bikinis, ISMA claimed.

In a Twitter thread that is partially deleted, ISMA said that the advertisement has lowered the glory of women and that images of women in underwear should not be displayed publicly.

“It’s also promoting soft pornography. The nude color makes it looks like 8 women in bikinis,” ISMA added.

The organization also said that the advertisement is impolite, especially when the advertisement board is displayed near the town’s mosque.

“Bandar Baru Bangi is a city of knowledge and the heaven of Tudung. The images makes this ironic.”

ISMA added that based on their short survey conducted in the Facebook group Bandar Baru Bangi Community (BBBC), they have received more than 300 responses from people who are against the advertisement. In the letter, they urged the boutique to take down the board immediately.

Jovian responds

It didn’t take long for the boutique to respond to the letter. Just this morning (December 15), ISMA tweeted and partially showed an e-mail they received from Jovian Apparel Sdn Bhd earlier, where the latter has apologised for the matter.

“Our company has taken the necessary actions and the advertisement board will be taken down within the next 14 working days,” Jovian said.

ISMA then said they appreciate Jovian’s response and assured that it was only for the benefit of the public.

Do you think Jovian went a little too far with their advertisement, or do you think the board brings no harm in the first place?
