We’re sure that you have stumbled upon rooms that are cheap to rent but from the photos, it looks so cramped that you would not have space to move.
The Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) will be taking stern actions against landlords who rent out “grave-like” narrow and small rooms to tenants, reported BERNAMA.
Minister of Local Government Development has said that they will start off by issuing a warning to the premise owners who have violated rules by renovating their homes without the prior approval of local authorities.
“The conditions of the rented premises are a danger to the lives of the tenants, which can lead to fire and mental health risks.”
He added, “For now, I will give these premises owners a chance, if they fail to comply with the law, we will not hesitate to take stern action in the near future.”
The minister says that actions can be taken on those landlords under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133) Section 79.
Prior to this, it was reported that a shophouse in Klang Valley had the top floor renovated and divided into 38 3.25 sq metres cubicles which were rented out at the price of RM300 per month. Not only is it inhumanely small, but it also has an unpleasant odour.
