Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Minister and DAP Vice Chairman Nga Kor Ming has slammed PAS for its attitude in regard to the Christmas celebration held at the KPKT office in Putrajaya.
According to a report by Utusan, the KPKT Minister sarcastically said that PAS is seen to be inconsistent in their stance when giving statements about festive celebrations.
“I followed the PAS statement, which wished all Christians a Merry Christmas. This actually shows their highest level of hypocrisy. At one point, they wished all Christians a Merry Christmas and at the same time, they tried to stop the religious believers from celebrating the season. What is this? I don’t understand,” he said.
He explained that, as a country with diverse races and cultures, the Madani government celebrates all festivals to foster harmony and goodwill among the people.
Nga also pointed out that, since he took on the role as KPKT Minister, his Ministry has celebrated every festival starting with Chinese New Year, followed by Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali and Christmas.
“We celebrate all festivals and do not succumb to bigotry and extremism. We respect Muslims in celebrating Aidilfitri, and at the same time, we also respect Christians in celebrating Christmas,”
“The viral video also shows how much goodwill and harmony the KPKT staff have in singing Christmas songs, which consists of officers of Kadazan descent from Sabah and Sarawak,” he added.
He went on to advise PAS leaders to “repent” from damaging the harmonious nature of our multicultural country and learn from the case involving PAS Commissioner Razman Zakaria, who had to apologise for the slanderous issue of flying the Chinese flag at Menara Condong, Teluk Intan.
“I advise PAS to repent and return to the fold. Don’t go astray a thousand times. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar clearly stated that cultural diversity is the speciality of our beloved country,”
“I will invite PAS leaders to come when I do the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. I hope PAS leaders will come with a Kompang (traditional drum) and sing Nasyid songs (religious songs) together so we can celebrate Aidilfitri later,” he said.
Earlier, PAS leaders condemned KPKT’s Christmas celebration and claimed it also involved Muslim staff.
