As the Omicron coronavirus variant dampened New Year’s Eve at a global scale, Malaysians at Bukit Bintang remained oblivious to the potential dangers of transmitting the Covid-19 virus when they came out in masses, ignoring social distancing.
To give you an idea, just how crowded it was, here are several images taken at around 10.30pm near the Bukit Bintang area.
Netizens were unimpressed!
Along with the caption: “As of 10.30pm today, crowds of people began to make their way to Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur to celebrate New Year’s eve.”, netizens commenting on the Facebook status began slamming those in attendance.
“I can never understand the appeal of celebrating New Year’s Eve. If this is how things are, it is no surprise that cases will continue to climb in the near future.”
“Please, I am looking forward to celebrating Hari Raya with my family this year.”
“These are the types of people who choose to remain ignorant. They are completely oblivious to the dangers they pose to others.”
With big cities like Paris cancelling their fireworks display, London relegating celebrations to the tv screens and New York scaling down its famous Times Square celebration, people would be a little more mindful of where they go to these days.
