Among the things you’ll see the most in Kuala Lumpur are motorcycles parked on sidewalks, sometimes blocking tactile pathways meant to help the blind community move around the city.
With that being said, should the authorities seize these motorcycles?
Malaysia Gazette recently took to their Twitter page to showcase the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) seizing a total of 25 motorcycles around Kuala Lumpur for parking on sidewalks and no parking zones, and blocking tactile pathways.
Malaysia Gazette wrote, “It has gone viral on social media that DBKL has seized motorcycles that were not parked in motorcycle parking zones in front of Wisma Central, Jalan Ampang.”
Despite the inconvenience these motorcycles owners are causing by parking where they please, many are divided over DBKL’s actions.
Some have said that the owners deserve the punishment of having their motorcycles taken away while others feel bad for them.

“Good job, DBKL, but you must be consistent in enforcing this every day. Every where in KL, motorcycles are parking on pedestrian walkways.”
“It doesn’t hurt to pay to park in a proper motorcycle parking lot. At most it is RM2. Unless you want to park for only a little while, to that I say tough luck, mate.”
“Good. This isn’t a proper parking space. Walkways have become a place to park as they please. Don’t blame DBKL if you don’t respect the law and the rights of pedestrians for selfish interests.”
“Imagine you have no money, salary and your claims are delayed, even if you have money it’s only for petrol. You’re rushing because you have some errands and didn’t have time to find a proper parking space. After that your motorcycle gets seized and you have to pay a fine or penalty to get it back but you don’t have the money. Even then you have to survive by owing people money.”
“So pitiful, is there no way to discuss things? Those riding motorcycles are trying to earn a livelihood, there’s no need to make immediate seizures.”
