Just yesterday, we reported that the Ministry of Finance (MOF) banned a Malaysian citizen from utilising the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative. This action followed the individual being caught on camera filling RON95 petrol into containers.

Now, another Malaysian has gone viral for a similar act, though he claims to have obtained official permission from the authorities.

Viral video and claims of legality

Utusan Melayu Plus recently shared a viral video on its Facebook page showing a man filling RON95 petrol into containers stored in the boot of his car at a petrol station in Penang. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday (19 March), with many netizens in the comments section of the post bashing the individual.

A man claiming to be the individual in the video then took to the comments section himself, threatening to issue a Letter of Demand (LOD) against those defaming him. He asserted that he holds a valid permit from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

“Each petrol station only allows for the purchase of petrol in 20-litre barrels. I have a permit from KPDN to purchase 100 litres per day,” he wrote.

KPDN responds

KPDN Penang has since responded to the incident, taking to its Facebook page to explain that it has investigated the matter and confirmed that the man is a fisherman who is justified in his purchase.

“The investigation found that the individual in question is a fisherman and holds a valid permit for the purchase of petrol, subject to specific conditions and quota limits. Accordingly, the activity complies with regulations and does not constitute an offence,” the statement read.

KPDN further emphasised that any purchase of petrol in containers exceeding 20 litres requires a special permit for scheduled controlled goods. Failure to comply with this regulation may result in legal action under the Supply Control Act 1961.

The authorities have advised the public not to speculate or spread inaccurate information that may cause confusion. Instead, citizens are encouraged to channel complaints and information through official platforms.
