A recent story has moved many netizens to tears after a food delivery rider went out of his way to help an elderly woman who had placed a food order.
Taking to TikTok, the rider (@abangpov98) shared a video of himself delivering the mak cik‘s RM14.50 food order, which she paid for in cash.
Food rider warms hearts after returning elderly’s money as ‘sedekah’
In the video, the mak cik could be seen holding a RM20 note along with RM4.50 in coins, which she intended to use to pay for her food.
While preparing her change, the rider made some small talk with the elderly woman and asked who the food was for. She told him that it was for her grandchild, whom she planned to share the food with.
The kind-hearted rider then returned her RM10 balance along with the coins. Although the mak cik insisted that he take the RM4.50 in coins, the rider encouraged her to keep it, saying that he wanted to give it to her as a form of sedekah (charity).
He later explained that he simply did not want to take the money in case it was all she had left. Before leaving her home, he told her:
“Today it’s your turn, tomorrow or the day after, it could be mine. We’ll never know.”
Food delivery rider returns to the mak cik‘s home with “gifts”
Meanwhile, in a separate video, the rider returned to the mak cik’s home and brought some food for her.
To make things even more heartwarming, the rider later took out a red envelope filled with cash to give to the woman. He explained that the money didn’t come from him, but was contributed by kind-hearted Malaysians who donated after seeing the viral video.
The mak cik then thanked him for his kindness and asked him to take one of the drinks he had bought for her as a small gesture of appreciation.
