A Nepali man, who was once dubbed as the reincarnation of Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha), was been found guilty for child sexual abuse.
Ram Bahadur Bomjon was arrested at a house in Kathmandu in January, on charges of sexual assault and involvement of the disappearance of at least 4 people from his camp.
According to a report by Independent UK, he was found guilty of sexually assaulting an underage girl by the Sarlahi District Court on Monday (June 24) and will face sentencing next Monday (July 1). He may be looking at at least 12 years in jail.
The charges in regards to the disappearance of his followers are still pending trial.
Ram, who is also known as ‘Buddha Boy’, had first caught the attention of the world in 2005, when many believes he was able to meditate while sitting beneath a tree for months, without food or water.
Though, reporters had, in fact, filmed him eating and he was also apparently spotted sleeping when he was said to be meditating in private.
While his popularity has declined, he still maintains camps around Nepal, where countless people go to worship and live.
During his arrest, he jumped from a second storey window in an attempt to flee during his arrest. Riot police also had to get involved as his followers had gathered outside of the Central Investigation Bureau office in Kathmandu where he was held.
