Grand proposals may set the bar high for other men out there, but do they really spoil the dating market?
A man in Johor Bahru recently went viral after proposing to his girlfriend with a brand-new Porsche, and many netizens said that the man is spoiling the dating market.
In the Facebook group KL娱乐站, a man expressed his take on the recent grand proposal, and he’s not a fan of it.
“This man proposed to his girlfriend with a luxury car, isn’t he spoiling the dating market? Men who can’t afford luxury cars don’t have to think about marrying someone anymore.”
“Can’t you just wish them well?”
His post in the Facebook group has raised debates among many Malaysians, and many of them agreed that regardless of how the lucky woman was proposed to, we’re no one to interfere and we should just wish them well.
Some of the netizens also took the opportunity to insult and judge the couple, and many have since defended the couple by saying they don’t deserve such treatment online.
“I noticed that the couple works in the property field, where they earn tens of thousands a month. Why would you guys attack them? Can’t you just wish them well?”
“I pity you, keyboard warriors, all you can do is insult others.”
“He’s rich, he has the capability to do so, and you’re just envious. If you don’t work hard yourself and will only point your finger, what’s the point?”
“To those who insult the couple, reflect on yourself. You may look good, but no one kneels and proposes to you with a luxury car. All you can do is insult others here. Is it so hard to wish them well?”
“I don’t care what the man does, he’s obviously capable and all I feel is pure admiration.”
What does the man who proposed to his girlfriend think?
In response to all the criticisms online, the man said that he doesn’t think there is a right or a wrong way to propose.
“I’m simply doing what I can to be happy with my partner,” he told Sin Chew.
The couple has been together for 7 years and both of them met each other when they were both studying at a local university.
Fellow men, do you think grand proposals spoil the dating market? As for the ladies, do you fancy public, luxury proposals?
