In this day and age, people are choosing either to remain single well into their 30s or get married to their partners but remain childfree. Though, choosing to be childfree (aka not have children) can stem from various reasons based on the person.
For a Malaysian, their choice to be childfree is a result of how their parents financially depend on them.
Taking to the SecretsMY Twitter page, the Malaysian elaborated on this.
They wrote, “I choose to be childfree. Why? My parents are those who 100% depend on their children when they are old. And I’m doing that (taking care of their parents financially). At first, I was okay with it, I didn’t really care much. I was sincere with my intentions because of Allah.”
“But now that it’s been quite a while, it’s been years, I feel like my youth was lost just like that. I’m stuck in my hometown, I can’t even wander off to search for jobs with bigger salaries. My siblings are also useless. Now I doubt if my intentions are sincere or if I’m just being forced.”
Due to their lack of freedom, they’ve ultimately had to take on jobs that don’t pay much and in turns, don’t have a lot of savings. This initiated their choice to be childfree.
“Since I am also poor, there isn’t enough in my KWSP account to cover my life when I’m old, I’ve decided to be childfree so that when I’m old, I don’t want my children to have to sacrifice their youth due to having to take care of me.”
“I want them to be able to wander off, spend their money on holidays, have a family and save money for their futures.”
They also added that their emotional instability is another reason why they believe its best they don’t raise children, though is open to the idea of getting married and having a family should Allah decide to point them in that direction one day.
Do you agree with their choice to be childfree? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
