Buying presents for a significant other or even someone that you have a crush on is rather stressful sometimes, as you are afraid that you may buy something they won’t like. If you’re buying for a girl, it’s usually easier to choose presents because you can never go wrong with items such as jewellery, flowers or gadgets. Don’t say you don’t know what to buy liao!

Sometimes you want to make a special impression on the girl and you decide to do something more romantic. This Malaysian girl received a rather thoughtful gift in a beautiful package but she recently shared what happened to her poor present in a post that has gone viral.
It appears that she received a gift box filled with baby’s breath flowers and nestled among the flowers, there was cold, hard cash of RM520 in five pieces of RM100 notes and one RM20 note. Side note: 520 is used in the Chinese community to signify “I Love You” because it sounds similar to the phrase.

In her post, she writes, “Guys, it’s good if you want to be romantic but after making your girl’s heart melt, please remind her to remove the rolled-up pieces of money after that. If not she will experience the same thing as me as I did not take out the money from the box.”
“As a result, the money has become rather ‘crispy’ on the outside while the inside is full of black mould. I brought it over to the bank and they asked me to reconstruct the pieces if I wanted to convert them into new banknotes. I have done so, what do you guys think of my artwork?”

Her post included photos of the spoilt bank notes which she had indeed tried to piece back. There were some netizens who were sceptical as they suspected that the flowers would dry fast and not cause the money to decompose so quickly.
However, a few other netizens spoke up and said, “Maybe the flowers were kept hydrated by a damp sponge beneath them but the girl did not know about it. Keeping money in a damp, enclosed box in a dark environment is a surefire way to encourage mould to grow. Perhaps there were other chemicals to preserve the flowers in the box as well, which contributed to its decomposition.”

Guys, sometimes it’s better to be practical. Maybe you could just do a bank transfer and print out the bank-in slip for your girlfriend next time? Just remember though, it’s not the value of the present but the thought that counts!
