A Malaysian woman travelling the globe recently took to TikTok to share a pleasant encounter with a street performer in Georgia which caught her off guard.
In the video, shared by @habibinourainalis, she was recording the breathtaking sights from a viewpoint in the country when she encountered a local street performer playing the accordion.
The Malaysian national anthem being played by a street performer in Georgia
As she got closer to the street performer, she noticed that the tune he was playing sounded familiar and as it turned out, the man was playing the Malaysian national anthem ‘Negaraku’!
The street performer, noticing that the song took @habibinourainalis off guard, asked where she was from.
She then replied,
“Your song, how did you know?”
The street performer then correctly guessed she was from Malaysia before continuing to play ‘Negaraku’ on his accordion.
@habibinourainalis then enjoyed the full performance of the Malaysian national anthem with the individual she was with.
She can also be heard talking to the individual she was with about whether they should give tips to the busker for his excellent performance.
In the comments, @habibinourainalis revealed that she gave the busker a USD20 or approximately RM88 tip for the ‘Negaraku’ rendition.

Malaysians proud to hear the national anthem being played overseas
In the comments section, many Malaysians were pleasantly surprised by the street performer too.
Some believed that the busker was actually playing the song ‘La Rosalie’ rather than Negaraku, as the tune of the Malaysian national anthem was inspired by the French song. You can read more about the history here.
However, this doesn’t make sense as the street performer only played the song because he correctly guessed that @habibinourainalis was Malaysian, hence it’s fair to assume that he’s familiar with ‘Negaraku’.
Accordingly, one commenter was impressed by how the busker knew the Malaysian national anthem, while several others thanked him for the performance.
Besides that, a few commenters also expressed how proud they were to see that our national anthem is being played overseas.
