For those who may not know, Silat is a form of martial arts or a combative art of self-defence, commonly practised in Southeast Asia, especially in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Singapore.
And now, making history in the Silat world is a Malaysian man, Thamaraj Vasudevan.
The Political Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia 1 and Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Megat Omardin, took to his Facebook page to congratulate Thamaraj following his win at the World Pencak Silat Championship at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
He wrote, “History was made in Abu Dhabi, UAE, for the first time in world history, a Malaysian Indian Silat participant, V Thamaraj, won the gold medal and became the world champion for the freestyle men’s category, after defeating a Silat participant from Uzbekistan. Congratulations, Thamaraj.”
In the politician’s post, he could be seen proudly embracing Thamaraj after he had won his gold medal.
Thamaraj’s victory came after he beat Uzbekistan’s Khudoyberdiev Diyorbek.
