These days, more and more couples seem to be opting for simpler, more affordable wedding ceremonies (times are changing after all, and what’s most important is the bride and groom’s happiness!).
That’s definitely the wedding this Malaysian couple decided to have while they were over in South Korea, according to mStar.
Last week, 27-year-old Abdul Fakkar Maudidi Safi and 30-year-old Khadijah Salamah Ibrahim tied the knot in a quick 4-minute ceremony at the Islamic Book Center in Seoul.
Of course, the wedding’s officiator called the bride’s parents beforehand to confirm that they gave permission and that the groom was financially stable. Abdul Fakkar provided a ring along with a 200,000 won (RM756) dowry, and the couple had one witness to the wedding.
A Facebook video showing the newlyweds getting married while wearing simple winter clothing garnered a lot of attention, with many Malaysian netizens extending their best wishes to the couple.
Mohd Zulhilmi Abd Karim, who was a witness to the wedding, said,
“I didn’t expect the wedding video to become so viral, because this is the first time I’ve uploaded a video like this.”
“Over here, marriages like this are quite common as long as it’s quick and easy to organise. I’m usually called to be a witness to weddings like this.”
Although they’re officially married in South Korea, Mohd Zulhilmi said that they would need to re-register their marriage when they come back to Malaysia.
We’re glad that Abdul Fakkar and Khadijah got married the way they wanted. What’s most important is their love for each other, after all!
Congratulations to the newlyweds. We wish them a blissful married life!
