While most kids would plan fun activities for their school holidays, there are some kids out there who may need to spend that time taking on more adult responsibilities.
Netizen, msnbr__, took to his Threads profile to share how a 12-year-old schoolgirl had asked for a job during the school holidays at the convenience store where he works.
He wrote, ” The other afternoon, 2 girls came by to buy ramen. I am working at Familymart. I noticed they were wearing school attire. As I was taking their orders, I casually asked, ‘There’s school today?‘ because it was a Saturday and we were not in Kedah. Then, one of them answered, ‘Yes brother, we have extracurricular activities today‘.”
He went on to ask the girls how old they were, to which the same girl responded that they were in standard 6 and we going to turn 13 years old. Before he could respond further, the girl then asked him if she could work there during the school holidays.
“I was shocked, in my heart I thought it was funny but at the same time, I was impressed,” he explained, while adding that he had to turn the girl down as the convenience store only hires those who are 18 years old and above.
But, overall, the girl’s desire for a job left an impact on him.
“The moral of the story is that kids these days are becoming more advanced. At 12 years old, she is already thinking of a job and earning money. This is proof that our race is not as lazy as what is being said out there,”
“I hope that this kid finds a good job, and helps her parents and family. I’m sorry that I couldn’t recommend you for a job here because, even with strong connections, it’s not possible. I am proud of your level of mindset. Not every kid your age thinks like you,” he said.
