Malaysian comedian and actor Along Cham was arrested by PDRM last week for possession of over 60 grams of cannabis, and he was charged at the Sepang Session and Magistrate Court, where he pleaded NOT guilty.
He was charged under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952, punishable under Section 39A (2) of the same act, which carries a sentence of life imprisonment or imprisonment of not less than five years and whipping of not less than 10 strokes, if convicted, reported Kosmo.
However, during the proceedings, Along Cham made his appeal to be granted bail.
“I am begging for bail because I have a child who is going to school soon, I am begging because I have a child, I promise, I swear I will cooperate,” he said.
Judge Ahmad Fuad, however, did not grant bail due to the legal provisions under the section not being bailable.
Therefore, Judge Ahmad Fuad did not allow the accused to be granted bail and set January 27 for the submission of the chemical report.
Besides that, Along was also slapped with another charge under Section 6 of the ADB 1952 for possessing 2.o7g of cannabis at the same time, place and date.
However, Along’s lawyer requested bail because his client’s son supports his wife and four children.
The magistrate allowed the accused bail of RM2,500 with one surety and set February 28 2025, for mention of the case.
