Being respectful towards our elders is such an essential part of Asian culture.
So much so that it’s gaining attention from one of the biggest names in the sporting industry.
Rugby legend, Sonny Bill Williams, took to his official Twitter account to showcase a Malaysian family with 3 young boys who had shown Williams their respectful nature, earning them his praise.
He wrote, “A Malaysian family with 3 young boys asked me for a photo today, all 3 of the young lads shook my hand, looked me in the eyes, bent their heads down and touched the back of my hand with their foreheads. Man, these kids had dignity, respect and honour in their family values, it was a beautiful moment.”
This incident took place during their pilgrimage in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.
Many have since spoken out on Malay and Malaysian culture of respecting our elders and our hospitality.
The boys’ parents clearly also deserve praise for raising such respectful and dignified little men.
Hopefully one day, Sonny Bill Williams will come to Malaysia and experience the immense culture and hospitality our people have to offer.
