Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Yaakob announced yesterday (7 September) that cinemas will be allowed to reopen to fully vaccinated individuals starting 9 September.
Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has since taken to Twitter to urge the Ministry of Health (KKM) to allow gymnasiums and facilities for outdoor sports to be opened as well.
“Cinema opened?? Gym and outdoor sports?? Please YB @Khairykj, there needs to be wisdom in our decisions,” he said in a Tweet on 8 September.
He also said in another tweet that stricter standard operating procedures (SOP) need to be set to allow for the reopening of outdoor activities and gymnasiums.
“Many are almost holding their breath. Please @KKMPutrajaya,” he said.
Ahmad Faizal then added that the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) has since submitted a proposal to the National Security Council (MKN).
“KBS had proposed that outdoor sports and gymnasiums open,” he said.
“The power is with the MKN. Hopefully, KKM supports it.”
Meanwhile, Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin has addressed the matter in a Tweet saying that KKM is working on ventilation guidelines for indoor gyms.
“For gyms, @KKMPutrajaya will be jointly developing some ventilation guidelines with MKN that need to be adhered to. This will not take long but because of the nature of indoor fitness centres, we must stress on certain ventilation requirements. Working on it urgently,” he said.
What do you think of this? Should gyms be reopened as well?
