A newly formed Malaysian Esports team not only broke stereotypes about the sport but also found itself ingrained in the Malaysian Book of Records (MBOR) as the 1st senior Esports team in our country and backed by the leading authority for Esports in Malaysia, the Malaysian Esports Federation.
Part of the Goodday Charge Boomers2Gamers campaign, the Esports team is aptly named “Team eMAS” and was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh on 13 June.
Malaysia’s 1st senior Esports team!
In a press release (via Marketing Magazine), Goodday Charge asserted that the formation of Team eMAS represents a significant milestone in the company’s mission to legitimise Esports by serving as a platform to help the older generation create a better understanding of Esports, bridging the generational gap and highlight Esports’ benefits in the areas of cognitive function, reflexes and more.
Started back in February, the Boomers2Gamers campaign received 298 applicants, all of whom are seniors aged 50 and above.
They were then narrowed down to the 10 best contestants and underwent authentic training regimes across several weeks, focusing on Trained Skills, Strategy, Fitness Level, Teamwork and Communication.
In the end, 6 Team eMAS was ultimately chosen and handpicked by professional Esports athletes Mohd Syazwan ‘Wanr0’ and Mohammed Reza ‘Rexa’, which are:
- Trish Lim (team lead)
- Nahar Ludhfi (entry fragger)
- Ahmad Zamzuri (2nd entry fragger)
- Johan Arifin (support)
- John Yap ( support)
- Linda Tee (substitute)
In cementing Team eMAS’ place in MBOR, they competed in 4 matches against Malaysian professional Counter-Strike team, HXG.
