Political artist and activist Fahmi Reza is well known for his deep and multilayered pieces of art which are often based on the current political state of the country.
Although he has gotten in trouble for it many times in the past, it has not slowed him down in any shape or form to continue making this pieces of art.
Following the results of the 15th General Election and how we are currently stuck in a limbo due to a hung parliament, Fahmi has once again depicted this situation in his latest piece.
Although it may appear to be a simple piece of art with no deeper meaning behind it, netizens have made up their own theories on what each part represented.
Theories galore
As Fahmi Reza has not gone into detail on his thought process behind the piece, netizens have taken it upon themselves to peel back the layers of the piece and interpret it in a way they see fit.
Some of the things that the users claimed is that:
- the rope is in yellow which is to represent the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,
- PH’s red hand is higher which depicted that they had the most votes,
- but parliament is slanted to the right which makes it easier for the blue hand (PN) to reach.
One user pointed out that it appeared as if the red hand was trying to “reach” parliament in order to grab it whilst the blue hand appeared to just be ready to catch it as it would fall into their hands.
Meanwhile, some users pointed out the usage of colours in the piece. “The white parliament, as in our flag means purity and nobility.”
“Perhaps it’s to represent the neutarlity that’s however controlled by the yellow rope which is a hangman’s noose often associated with death. Intended as ‘death’ of democracy?”
What is your perspective on the piece? Are there any other meanings that could be depicted about it?
