Local city council dog catchers are no strangers to controversy as they’ve been caught on camera multiple times, treating the dogs they’ve caught inhumanely.
But what happens when they also abuse those protecting the dogs?
Rekha Morgan took to her Facebook page to call out Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) dog catchers after they had allegedly assaulted an elderly man with a metal rod when the elderly man tried to protect his dogs from them.
She wrote, “It was approximately 8:55pm to 9pm when I was on my way back to my place, I witnessed this incident along Jalan 18/17 Taman Kanagapuram, Petaling Jaya, where around 6 to 7 MBPJ officers were spotted at the location and one of them was assaulting an old man.”
“The officer was threatening and used an iron rod to hit the old man when he tried to block them from capturing his dogs.”
Unable to accept the officer’s apparent vile actions, Rekha decided to intervene
“I stepped out of my car to stop them from harassing him further and told them this is not the right way to carry out their duty, and the officers responded ‘we are the government, this is how we do things‘ and ‘report to the police la‘, implying that acting like barbarians and man-handling the helpless public is a norm while carrying out their duty,” she said.
After she stepped in, she took the time to explain the situation to the uncle, helping him to agree to handing over his dogs to the officers, one of which was just a puppy.
Though, it shouldn’t have had to come to that
“A team of 6 to 7 officers forced to opt for violence to perform their duty and to control a simple situation like this.”
“The uncle mentioned that the officers didn’t explain their intention and failed to show any reports or official ID and immediately started attacking him,” she shared, adding that the uncle ended up with a swollen jaw, cheek and had a cut on his wrist from the officer’s alleged attack.
Apparently, not one of the other officers had even tried to stop the assault on the elderly man, who was all alone when in incident took place.
“I have been seeing this uncle and these dogs for years. He brings all his dogs out for a walk twice a day and takes good care of them by feeding and providing shelter on his own expense. These dogs are harmless and even if there is a mistake committed by him, physically or verbally abusing anyone in the name of power is a hard NO.”
“This is a classic example of abuse of power in the name of duty. Hooligans in the name of government staff.”

We genuinely hope that the authorities take severe action against these officers for conducting such a barbaric act against a helpless old man.
