It’s an epidemic that has been ruining the country’s image for years now. From the loud noise to the reckless riding on the road, the Mat Rempit craze continues to bug Malaysians on highways and other public places.
A video was shared on a Facebook page recently, showing a group of Rempits revving their bikes by the beach and creating much ruckus and smoke. They were clearly there to disturb the public who were trying to enjoy their time with their family.
They were carelessly riding their bikes on the sand, dangerously near to children who were playing there. After a while, the parents there got tired of the nuisance and started to retaliate.
From the video, a fistfight between the Mat Rempits and a man broke out. Suddenly, another man in what appears to be a RELA uniform kicks a bike until it falls sideways.
One mak cik went to confront a Mat Rempit while holding what it seemed to be a long stick to chase them away. Gradually, a crowd gathered around the Rempits, and more individuals started to express their anger at them. A pak cik even decided to kick one of them in the head.
In the end, the Mat Rempits give up the fight as they can be seen running away from the scene.

We’re not 100% certain if this video was recorded in Malaysia, but we did spot a Malaysian license plate on one of the Rempit’s bikes. One unverified source claims it occurred in Lahad Datu, Sabah.
There must be a way to handle the Rempit epidemic. We cannot take their presence lightly as they put themselves and others in danger. The problem has existed for years now, and yet the number of Rempits keep on increasing.
Perhaps we should enlist more mak cik and pak cik avengers?
