A man has died at Taman Puchong, three days after undergoing a traditional ritual to on the 26th of April.
The 35-year-old man from Sitiawan was pronounced dead at 10.10am at Serdang Hospital due to injuries in his internal organs and abdomen, according to report by New Straits Times.
The injuries were supposedly part of a healing ritual, which apparently included punching, kicking and stepping on the victim.
The victim complained of being ill, and had also been saying that he was constantly disturbed by an evil spirit for over a year, even after going through various traditional healing rites.
Finally he held the healing ritual at his sister’s house on Monday with five traditional healers, including two women. All healers, including the victim’s brother-in-law have since been arrested to aid with investigations.
Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Azlin Sadari said based on the medical examination, the victim’s injuries were consistent with the alleged assault.
“Based on our initial investigation, the victim had been bashed up by the five suspects who claimed to be traditional healers.”
According to Sadari these acts of being punched, kicked and stepped on were said to be part of the “healing” process.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder he said, with the suspects now remanded for seven days, beginning yesterday.
It was learnt that the case came to light when a medical officer, who attended to the victim’s body, alerted the police after suspecting foul play. A relative, met at the Taman Puchong Intan home, said the victim appeared normal even after undergoing several days of “treatment” and only fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital on the 26th.
“We only knew about his death when his sister called us from the hospital. He is a very nice and respectful person. He was also very close with his sister.”
