An 18-year-old man known simply as FSB in Buleleng, Indonesia, was recently arrested by the police after he was believed to have engaged in sex with a 12-year-old girl, identified as PA.

According to Bali Express, FSB confessed to dating and having sex with the underaged girl. He reportedly first engaged in sexual relations with PA on 24th May 2019, but the girl’s parents only found out what had happened on 18th June after they had gone through her phone.

The parents reportedly found messages from FSB who asked her to have sex four times. Upon discovering this, they confronted their daughter. The father told the daily,

“Maybe she was afraid, so I asked her patiently. In the end, she confessed and admitted that she was assaulted by him once.”

After this, the girl’s father went to the accused’s home and confronted him, prompting him to confess. The parents then reported FSB to the police.

Thankfully, PA is currently stable and has already undergone a psychological evaluation, according to her parents.

Meanwhile, SMS exchanges between PA and FSB and the girl’s clothing have already been submitted as evidence, and the 18-year-old was arrested last Thursday (27th June).

According to Nusa Bali, the accused did not appear to understand that what he did was a crime, insisting that he had a consensual relationship with the 12-year-old girl and did not force her into anything.

He told the daily that they reportedly have been dating since December 2018, saying,

“I am with her, and we both like each other. There was no coercion. We are both from the same village and I was initially attracted to her.”

Now, the suspect could face up to 15 years in prison and a maximum fine of 5 billion Rupiah (approx RM1.47 million) if found guilty.

Let’s hope the authorities issue an appropriate and just punishment if the suspect is indeed found guilty. Meanwhile, let’s hope the girl recovers from this ordeal.
