When dining in a restaurant in Malaysia becomes the biggest flex. Thank you, MCO.

While most states in Malaysia are currently still under lockdown, which means no dine-in, some fortunate states that have moved into the recovery phase are making the rest of us feel extremely jealous. Perlis is one of those states.

Perlis residents have gotten most of us to feel nostalgic and jealous after posting pictures and videos of them dining in at local eateries. Yesterday (4 August), Twitter user @IzzRaifHarz posted photos of him enjoying a plate of fried rice while dining in at a restaurant.

He tweeted “Salam dine-in dari Perlis.” As of writing, his tweet has gained over 22,000 likes and 13,000 retweets.

On an additional tweet, he wished the entirety of Malaysia to get well soon and expressed his gratitude. “During times like this, I am grateful for simply being able to dine-in even if there is nothing else,” he said.

“Honestly, this is for all of the years I’ve heard people tease me for living in Perlis and saying things such as Perlis only has eight residents and that it is boring.”

Another Twitter user and Perlis resident, @MasturaI also posted photos of her enjoying a wide range of food at a restaurant. She tweeted “Salam Malaysia.. Dine in from Perlis Indera Kayangan.”

She also posted a video and said that “for those who may have forgotten how it looks like to dine in, this is the way,” as she zooms into more delicious food.

Jealous Malaysians respond

The tweets by these Perlis residents got the majority of Malaysians feeling jealous and many Twitter users have since replied to his post with envy and sadness.

Perlis is among three other states in Malaysia that entered Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) following the statement posted by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on 2 August. The two other states are Labuan and Sarawak.

By entering the Third Phase, most daily activities and businesses will resume as usual and dine in at restaurants and stalls will be allowed.

We can merely watch with envy as people in those states enjoy their meals at restaurants. Let’s work together to stay safe and abide by the SOPs so that we can hopefully enjoy our meals outside very soon.

Malaysians who are not currently in the aforementioned states, when do you think you will be moving into the Third Phase? Let us know in the comments!
