To all makeup enthusiasts out there, you might want to filter through your makeup kit after reading this!
Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety recently revealed that a total of 13 products sold by notable cosmetic brands produced by a local original design manufacturer (ODM) were found to contain excessive amounts of toxic ingredients, The Investor reported.
ODM cosmetic maker Hwasung Cosmetic was found guilty of producing products of several cosmetic brands with antimony above the permissible level of 10 micrograms per gram as set by Korean regulators. Antimony is a heavy metal substance that can cause conditions like eye irritation and gastrointestinal disorder.
The ministry has suspended the sales of the 13 cosmetics products sold at eight companies and ordered a recall on March 19.
The companies involved include Aritaum, Etude House, Makeheal, XTM Style Homme, Black Monster, SKEDA, Skinfood and 3CE, Oriental Daily reported. Surely you’ll recognise some of the names listed above.

“We apologize for the incident, we should have put all our focus on quality assurance. We will do our best to prevent similar cases from happening again. Customers who have products on the recall list can visit Aritaum or Etude House stores to get the products exchanged or refunded,” said Amorepacific as quoted by Asia One.
