The sudden and unexpected closure of LRT Kelana Jaya Line enraged many Malaysians who often commute to their destinations via train and caused massive traffic on major KL roads in the morning, as well as creating havoc among the crowd who board buses.

Since then, many have urged the Ministry of Transport for clarification on the constant breakdown of trains. Just this morning (November 11), Dato Seri Wee Ka Siong announced that the problem has been rectified.

Not only that but LRT Kelana Jaya Line may resume operation earlier than expected.

The modem and the power supply for the tracks have been replaced. However, the fate of the LRT is still subject to a test that will be conducted today, and tomorrow (Saturday, November 12). If all is well, LRT train services will resume on Sunday (November 13).

Sin Chew reported that whether or not the closed 16 LRT stations can resume operations ahead of schedule would depend on the results of the test. During the press conference this morning, Wee pointed out that experts have been conducting tests and evaluations on the tracks.

“The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) will also need to certify experts’ confirmation that the rail line is safe and stable for use before we can resume operations,” Wee added.

If there are no more problems, then services will resume ahead of the schedule with Prasarana making an announcement at 6 pm on Saturday. Wee also said they sought help from Thales Group, the original equipment manufacturer, to send over its experts to look into the problem.

The closure of the LRT Kelana Jaya line involved 16 stations, some of which are major and busiest interchange stations. They were initially scheduled to close until November 15.

Fellow LRT users, hang in there! Let’s hope that the tests will run smoothly so that the LRT train services can be resumed before Monday blues hit again!
