The lorry driver who was involved in a horrifying accident that caused a four vehicle pile up at a traffic light in Jalan Ipoh pleaded not guilty for driving under the influence at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s court.

The lorry driver identified as 25-year-old Ardi Latif was charged for driving under the influence of methamphetamine and amphetamine, resulting in his inability to control his vehicle.

According to The Star, the lorry driver was unable to control his vehicle and caused injury to yellow Myvi driver Nik Adlee Saha Nik Ahmad Fauzi.

The charge was made under Section 44(1A) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum jail time of 10 years, a fine of between RM30,000 and RM50,000 and disqualification from driving for a period of no less than seven years.

Netizens commenting on the trial were still angry at how such a person is allowed to operate heavy machinery despite the red flags.

“Too many of these drug addicts on a high and causing serious accidents.”

“Luckily no lives were lost this time. The driver should have his driver’s license revoked as a deterrent to others.”

“Severe punishment should be given for nearly causing death and injury.”

Let’s hope that justice will be served and incidents like this be made an example to deter others from dabbling with potential DUIs in the future.
