As Malaysians, visiting the Mamak restaurants for a meal at any time of the day is an inevitable part of our lives. A TikToker recently made some claims about what has been going on behind the scenes at some Mamak restaurants, and PRESMA is not happy about the allegations.
Here’s what the TikToker claimed about the procedures at Mamak shop, and heads up! They’re pretty bizarre.
- Briyani & Underwear
Why are these 2 linked together in a sentence? According to the TikToker, Mamak workers at a KL restaurant allegedly wrapped Briyani rice in men’s underwear.
“I saw one of them leaving the washroom, and I saw him handling the rice container which was wrapped in a tighty whity.”
- Toyol’s urine as an ingredient?
As if the 1st allegation was not bizarre enough, this TikToker went on and said that a Toyol allegedly peed into the chicken curry.
“I was told by a friend about this.”
To those who are not familiar, Toyol is an ‘undead infant’ based on Indonesian and Malay folklore.
- Shower water as another ingredient?
The next one isn’t any better. Her next claim stated that some Mamak workers collect their shower water, which will later be used to add to any gravy.
- Frozen feces!
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, the last claim stated that 1 of the customers found a piece of frozen feces in his Dhaal gravy.
The TikToker did not disclose the exact location of those gruesome discoveries and highlighted that not ALL workers are lacking in hygiene. The post has since been removed but is currently circulating on social media again.
PRESMA, however, is baffled by the allegations and they are going to take legal action against the TikToker.
President of the organisation, Datuk Jawahar Ali Taib Khan saw that as an ill intention towards all Mamak restaurants in Malaysia, and said he would not even try to mediate the situation.
“We don’t know what her intentions are but we’re taking legal actions, although she has since removed the video.”
Datuk Jawahar also said that more than 100 reports have been lodged with the police, and the organisation wants the matter investigated, reported Harian Metro.
“The claims don’t only ruin the reputation of Mamak restaurants but they are also insensitive.”
Fans of Mamak restaurants, what do you think of this?
