August 12th was supposed to be a happy day for a Chinese couple, but fate took a turn as the bride passed away moments before their wedding in a hospital.
The 27-year-old groom Yang Feng, dressed in a handsome suit outside a hospital ward, was devastated after hearing news that his fiancée, Xiao Hui, a 32-year-old leukaemia patient, had passed away before they could exchange their wedding vows. This is heartbreaking!
According to China News, the couple met two years ago. Yang Feng, a deliveryman, was on his way to deliver some goods when he bumped into Xiao Hui who wanted to hitch a ride. They had since been keeping in contact and it did not take long for the couple to hit it off.
Xiao Hui was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia, a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow, when she was 24.
Despite knowing that she had leukaemia, Yang was determined to be in a relationship with her.
He spent about 3,000 (RM1,787) to 4,000 Yuan (RM2,382) of his 5,000 yuan (RM2,978) monthly income on her treatment.
When Yang learnt that Xiao Hui’s illness had worsened, he decided to hold a wedding ceremony for her at a hospital in Zhengzhou city in Henan province on Sunday (Aug 12).
A local wedding company helped to organise the wedding in the hospital for free. Although the wedding was prepared in a rush, Yang made sure that everything was perfect for his bride.
Unfortunately, Xiao Hui’s condition deteriorated, and despite several attempts to save her, she eventually passed away.
Yang held back tears as he spoke to reporters at the hospital, saying,
“If only I had gotten to know her earlier.”
The heartbreaking story was shared on Weibo by China Central Television, and had since garnered much attention from netizens.
A video had also been recorded outside the hospital ward during the preparation of the wedding:
