Exciting news, KL foodies!
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has announced that they will be opening six food truck parks in the city this year, which means more awesome new makan spots!
Recently, DBKL, in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur Food Truck Club and the Institute of Entrepreneurship (INSKEN), organised Karnival Food Truck 101, which was held in the KL Sentral area in conjunction with Federal Territory Day.
Ministry of Federal Territories deputy secretary-general, Datuk Roshida Jaafar, who attended the event, acknowledged the rising trend of food trucks, stating:
“Food trucks will become a streetscape as the street hawkers are transformed into food truck traders since they are the choice of the young generation.”
She went on to say, “Food trucks will colour the culinary and tourism industry in the capital since it characterises the lifestyle of urban people”.
Some of these food truck parks will be located near the Masjid Jamek and Tabung Haji building areas. So keep your eyes peeled for them!
If you don’t think you can wait that long for these parks to open, don’t worry! There is currently one food truck park in KL!
TAPAK located at Jalan Ampang is KL’s first and (currently) only permanent food truck park, which was established last year by four high school friends.
This urban street dining park has a database of nearly 40 different food trucks. The venue itself holds up to 10 food trucks a day, so these registered food trucks rotate on a daily basis.
With six more food truck parks like this popping up around town, we’ll soon have more great street food! Not to mention more places to chill!
We don’t know about you but we definitely can’t wait to eat EVERYTHING as soon as these parks open!
