District police chiefs (OCPDs) across Malaysia are being reminded to not treat their ‘Aku Janji’ letters (integrity pledge) as ’tissue paper’.

According to a report by Astro Awani, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) Director Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay shared that he received information that some of the Kuala Lumpur contingent district police chiefs are not happy about the JSJ Bukit Aman D7 Task Force taking action on online gambling premises.

They are apparently also allegedly dissatisfied that Bukit Aman is carrying out busts in their districts.

“Supposedly, all of the OCPDs who sign the (Aku Janji) pledge every month that there will be no gambling activities in their respective districts should stick to that pledge.”

“Don’t let the ‘Aku Janji’ pledge be treated like a piece of tissue paper that has no value, and no more warnings will be given,” he said in regards to action being taken against OCPDs who do not take action against illegal gambling activities.

Additionally, Ayob Khan shared that he has established a small JSJ task force to monitor crime in the entire state as well as among the district police contingent.

“The task force has just been established and these people will go out on the field to monitor the assignments of the state and district police contingents, the focus of this task force is not only gambling but all types of crimes,” he explained, adding that the lack of monitoring and supervision at the state and district contingent police levels have caused illegal gambling activities to remain rampant.

“I will appear suddenly, to make inspections and I will not send a task force to all contingents and districts. We will conduct a surprise inspection if there is information that they are not taking action (against illegal activities) and I will impose disciplinary action on the district police chiefs because the ‘Aku Janji’ pledge already exists,” he said.

It truly is amazing to see how the authorities are working to clean up their acts.
